Hi,
I’ve added a new aircraft type to the JStream collection: The Douglas DC-3 Dakota.
The DC-3 joins my collection of 105 aircraft templates that are used across the JStream site, and it is the 18th template that was designed entirely by me.
I’ve been creating more and more fictional airlines that started back in the 1940s, and I have plans to create a couple that go back to at least the mid 1930s. I do have the Douglas DC-4 created by Norebbo, but the DC-3 was by far the most popular airliner used during the 1930s and 1940s. For example, in 1939 over 9 out of 10 airline flights were being flown by some variant of the DC-3s, and the DC-3 pioneered more air travel routes than any other aircraft type before the jet age. Norebbo carries over 170 templates of virtually every aircraft type worth having from the 1960s up to the present, but they don’t carry the DC-3. So I decided to create it myself from scratch.
What’s Next?
Now that I’m beginning to create these older fictional airlines, I’m going to draw up additional retro aircraft templates like this one. I have a list of about 140 desired aircraft types, but the aircraft templates I’m most interested in drawing up soon include:
Boeing 307 Stratoliner
Boeing 377 Stratocruiser
Convair 880/990
de Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter
Douglas DC-6 - done ✔
Lockheed L-188 Electra
Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation - done ✔
Having previously drawn up the Antonov An-124 Ruslan, there are also a couple of other Russian aircraft I’d like to draw up if I can find suitable photos to work with, like the smaller Antonov An-24 turboprop and Yakovlev Yak-42 trijet. They are on my priority list for sure.
I’ve been asked if this particular aircraft template will be made available for download or for sale. The short answer is yes, I do plan to make my in house made templates available for sale sometime later this year. I’m currently trying to decide pricing and where to sell them from. Once all that gets decided I’ll add a page link in the top menu accordingly.
Below is an embeded link to the aircraft reference page for the DC-3. You can also find it on my aircraft inventory page listing all aircraft depicted on this site.
