One of two variations of the Boeing 727 aircraft family, the Boeing 727-100 is a narrow-body, medium range three-engine jet airliner manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, a division of The Boeing Company. Boeing Commercial Airplanes is headquartered in Renton, Washington USA, while the parent company’s head office is located in Arlington, Virginia USA.

The 1st variant of the type, the 727-100 features an engine on each side of the fuselage instead on the wings, each located near the leading edge of the tail fin. A 3rd engine is mounted on the tail cone of the fuselage, which forms an S-duct that connects with an exhaust port located at the rear of the fuselage below the tail.

Production of the 727-100 ended in October 1972 in favor of the newer stretch variant Boeing 727-200 trijet, after 571 727-100s were built. The 727-100 was sold in passenger, cargo, combi and QC (quick change) configurations, as well as the military version known as the Boeing C-22. The 727 type continued to fly passengers into the 2000s, but since 2019 all extant examples have been converted to freighter service.
