Aircraft / Boeing 727-200
One of two variations of the Boeing 727 aircraft family, the Boeing 727-200 is a narrow-body, medium range three-engine jet airliner manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, a division of The Boeing Company. Boeing Commercial Airplanes is headquartered in Renton, Washington USA, while the parent company’s head office is located in Arlington, Virginia USA.
The 2nd variant of the type, the 727-200 features an engine on each side of the fuselage instead on the wings, each located near the leading edge of the tail fin. A 3rd engine is mounted on the tail cone of the fuselage, which forms an S-duct that connects with an exhaust port located at the rear of the fuselage below the tail. A latter day subvariant of the 727-200, known as the Boeing 727-200 Advanced, was introduced in 1970 and featured more powerful engines, higher fuel capacity, longer range, and overall MTOW (maximum takeoff weight).
Production of the 727-200 ended in September 1984 in favor of the newer Boeing 757 twinjet. It was sold in a passenger, cargo or combi configuration. The 727 continued to fly passengers into 2000s, but since 2019 all extant examples have been converted to freighter service.
