Members of the first generation Embraer E-Jet family, the Embraer E170 and Embraer E175 are two four-abreast, narrow-body, short to medium range twin-engine jet airliner variants produced by Embraer S.A., a Brazilian aerospace manufacturer headquartered at São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Brazil.

The Embraer E170 was the base version of the first generation E-Jet family. Designed to carry 66 passengers, it took its first flight in February 2002, and entered service in March 2004. Production of the E170 ended in 2017 with a total of 191 units built.

Meanwhile, the Embraer E175 was a slightly stretched version of the E170, but offered a larger passenger seating capacity of 76 and a slightly longer flight range. The E175 first entered revenue service in July 2005.

As of 2025, the E175 is the only remaining variant of the first generation E-Jet family that is still in production. More than 20 years after the E175 was first introduced, there is still a backlog of 164 aircraft to be built. With 943 orders and 779 deliveries to date, the E175 has become the best selling aircraft in the Embraer product line, alongside the Embraer Phenom 300 business jet.

Both the E170 and E175 are available only as a passenger aircraft, and it is not expected that either model will see a 2nd career as freighters due to their shorter fuselage length and other issues. In recent years the two variants have seen use as business jets by corporations and governments, and they are also frequently used as charter aircraft.

Embraer E175-E2 Development

In 2013, Embraer announced a 2nd generation replacement model, for the E170 and E175, known as the Embraer E175-E2. However, largely due to scope clause agreements between US mainline carriers and their pilots unions that limit the number and size of aircraft to be flown by a major airline's regional airline affiliates, no orders for the E175-E2 have been received to date.

In 2022, Embraer delayed further development of the E175-E2 for at least three years. To date there are still no orders for the E175-E2 in the Embraer orderbooks, and the company has indicated the earliest it could produce a new E75-E2 is in 2027 or 2028, making it likely that the E175-E2 may never reach the production phase.
