Aircraft / Ilyushin Il-76TD
The Ilyushin Il-76TD is a four-engined, medium-range, narrow-body cargo freighter designed in the mid-1960s and manufactured by Ilyushin (Russian: Илью́шин), a subsidiary of United Aircraft Corporation (Russian: Объединённая авиастроительная корпорация; also commonly romanized as Obyedinyonnaya Aviastroitelnaya Korporatsiya or OAK), a state-owned Russian aerospace and defense manufacturer headquartered in Khoroshyovsky District, Moscow, Russian Federation.
Introduced in 1974, the Ilyushin Il-76TD is a commercial freighter variant of the Ilyushin Il-76 Russian military aircraft. The type was originally manufactured in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, but production has since been moved to Ulyanovsk, Russia. The Il-76TD sees continuing service as a commercial freighter for ramp-delivered cargo, especially for outsized or heavy items. It has also been used as an emergency response transport for civilian evacuations as well as for humanitarian aid and disaster relief around the world. Thanks to its ability to operate from unpaved runways, it has been useful in undeveloped areas.
The Ilyushin Il-76 type remains in active production and active service worldwide, particularly in Europe, Asia and Africa.
