A JStream Exclusive Original Concept Aircraft

The Aria S42 is a narrow-body, medium range twin-engine supersonic jet airliner produced by the Aria Aircraft Company, a commercial aircraft manufacturer headquartered in Denver, Colorado USA, and Dublin, Ireland.

Developed as a supersonic derivative from the Aria T42 Transonic jet, the Aria S42 is the smallest supersonic airliner in the world. Together, the T42 Transonic and S42 Supersonic were the first Aria aircraft to enter production, on 9 September 2021. The S42 is available either as a passenger airliner or as a dedicated business jet, known as the Aria S42b Supersonic Bizjet.

Although it was conceived originally to be a supersonic airliner servicing thinner medium range routes, most of the S42s sold to date have actually gone to business jet customers, where the type is marketed as the Aria S42b Supersonic Bizjet. The S42b’s 7500 nmi range, along with its customizable interior, has appealed to executives who favor luxurious travel at an intercontinental range. Even so, the Aria S42 has found some orders coming from the regular and boutique airliner markets.

A newer variant of the S42 is the Aria S42h Supersonic Hybrid. One of a set of experimental hybrid aircraft being developed by Aria Aircraft, the S42h is a hydrogen fuel cell-flexfuel hybrid that can operate on either standard Jet-A aviation fuel or 50% to 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The prototype S42 saw its first flight in November 2024 and testing of the concept continues apace.
