Aircraft / Comac C919-100
The Comac C919-100 is a twin engine, medium range narrow-body airliner developed by the aircraft manufacturer Comac, a Chinese state-owned aerospace manufacturer headquartered at Pudong, Shanghai, China.

When it was launched in 2008, the Comac C919 was conceived to produce a narrowbody short to medium range airliner seating 6 abreast, to compete against the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. At the time the C919 was first announced, it was expected to make its first flight by 2014, to produce up to 2300 total units over time, and to achieve a target of 150 aircraft produced per month by 2020. Development and prototyping took longer than planned, however. The C919 attained its maiden flight milestone later than projected, in May 2017. Further refinements and tweaks to the type further delayed introduction until May 2023.
The C919 has been certified by CAAC to operate in China. Efforts are being undertaken to attain certification for the C919 with the European EASA, after which Comac plans to seek its certification with the FAA in the US and other international aviation authorities.
As of early 2025, the order book for the Comac C919 stood at 1005 orders, with a further 120 options and 16 aircraft delivered so far. Comac plans to deliver 75 new aircraft during the coming year. Most of its customers are Chinese carriers or lessors, although airlines and lessors in Brazil, Brunei, Indonesia, Ireland, Laos, and Thailand have also expressed interest in and/or placed orders for the C919.
The C919 is currently available in two passenger-configured variants: 1) a Basic version with 2235 nmi / 4139 km range; or 2) an Extended Range version with a range of 3011 nmi / 5576 km.
Beyond the current base Comac C919-100 variant, Comac plans to introduce shortened and stretch variants of the C919 in coming years, covering a passenger seating range from 130 to 240 seats. The company also plans to eventually offer a 2nd aircraft engine option featuring the indigenously built ACAE CJ-1000A produced by Aero Engine Corporation of China, once that engine model has completed its final flight tests.
