A member of the 2nd generation Embraer E-Jet E2 family, the Embraer E190-E2 is a four-abreast, narrow-body, short to medium range twin-engine jet airliner produced by Embraer S.A., a Brazilian aerospace manufacturer headquartered at São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Brazil.

The Embraer E190-E2 entered production in 2018 as the successor model to the company’s 1st generation Embraer E190. The E190-E2 features two Pratt & Whitney PW1000G high-bypass geared turbofan (GTF) engines. These new engines, together with the E190-E2’s slightly gull-wing configuration, a greater wingspan, larger overall wing area and double digit improvements in range, fuel burn, pollutant and noise emissions, and lower overall operating costs, combine to make the E190-E2 an excellent replacement aircraft. Beyond these improvements, the E190-E2 is heavier than the E190, is essentially the same length as its predecessor, and carries roughly the same number of passengers.

As of early 2025, the Embraer E190-E2 has had somewhat anemic sales to date: A total of 52 orders so far, including a current backlog of 27 aircraft. While Embraer has received some orders from other parts of the world, no orders have come in from the USA to date. This appears to be due in part to scope clause agreements with American pilot unions that regulate the ability of major US airlines to use regional class aircraft. In contrast, the Embraer E195-E2, a stretched-fuselage version of the E190-E2, has five times as many orders to date.

The Embraer E190-E2 is sold by default as a passenger aircraft only, but they are widely expected to be convertible into freighters in later years via aftermarket freighter conversion programs.
