The Gulfstream G650 and Gulfstream G650ER are large twin engine, long range business jets designed and manufactured by Gulfstream Aerospace of Savannah, Georgia USA.

Originally designated as the Gulfstream GVI on its type certificate, the Gulfstream G650 was internally launched in May 2005 and publicly revealed in March 2008. At its introduction the G650 became the company’s largest, fastest and most expensive business jet, until it was surpassed by its latter day successor model, the Gulfstream G700, in 2019.

Despite having similar names and a passing resemblance to the prior generation Gulfstream models, the Gulfstream G650 was in reality the start of a new family of aircraft. While it has the same large, elliptical cabin windows that have been characteristic of the Gulfstream jet series dating back to the Grumman Gulfstream II of the 1960s, nearly everything else was effectively a clean-sheet redesign of the airframe.

The G650 has a larger diameter fuselage with an oval cross-section instead of the industry-standard circular fuselage arrangement. It also has a higher aspect ratio wing design with a sweep of 36 degrees and a continuously changing curve. The G650 was also an early adopter of fly-by-wire technology, featuring a dual hydraulic flight surface control system. The end result was the creation of an iconic, very successful top of the line business jet has remained popular to the current day and charted over 90 speed and endurance records.

The Gulfstream G650ER, introduced in late 2014, is visually identical to the baseline G650 version but is 4000 lbs / 1814 kg heavier than the original model. The G650ER contains additional fuel capacity housed within existing space inside the aircraft’s wings, giving it an approved extended range of 7500 nmi (nautical miles) - enough for it to fly nonstop between Los Angeles-LAX and Dubai-DXB.

The G650ER also holds the current record for the longest non-stop flight ever made by a purpose-built business jet, set in April 2019 when a G650ER flew 8379 nmi (15,518 km; 9642 mi) from Singapore-SIN to Tucson-TUS at an average speed of 543 knots (1007 km/h; 626 mi).

The Gulfstream G650 and G650ER ended its 13-year production run in February 2025 with a total of 598 aircraft built. It was replaced by the newer generation Gulfstream G800.
