Recently Added: Lockheed L-1049 + Boeing 727-100
The L-1049 Is In-House Made; The 727-100 Is a Norebbo Adaptation
I’ve added 2 new aircraft types to the JStream collection:
The legendary Lockheed L-1049G Super Constellation, an in-house made template; and
The Boeing 727-100, an adaptation of the template created by Norebbo.
They are the 106th and 107th aircraft templates to join my collection of aircraft used across the JStream site. The Lockheed Super Constellation is the 19th template to be drawn by me personally, while the Boeing 727-100 is the 74th aircraft type I’ve adapted from the extensive Norebbo collection.
About the Super Constellation
While Norebbo has tends to specialize in drawing out templates for aircraft introduced in the late 20th century and the 21st century, I’ve begun drawing out templates of aircraft from the mid 20th century period. I recently added the Douglas DC-3, for example.
The Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation is an aircraft originally built to meet the requirements of TWA Airlines owner Howard Hughes, one of the world’s richest and influential men of his time. The L-1049’s heyday was during the 1950s, until the arrival of the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 passenger jets in the early 1960s, after which the L-1049 was relegated to freighter duty.
The L-1049 has always been a favorite aircraft type for me. I’ve always loved its sleek appearance especially. Overseas airlines loved the L-1049’s long range capabilities and its nearly 4500 nmi range, and several advancements it brought in passenger comfort.
My drawing of the L-1049 was inspired by a drawing created by B. Huber in 2008, but the version presented here was drawn from scratch. I’ve rendered versions in bare metal and white. I haven’t mentioned the L-1049 in previous articles, but I do plan to feature it in some future fictional airline depiction, probably in an article about a legacy flag carrier.
About the Boeing 727-100
Norebbo only recently rolled out his Boeing 727-100 template, but it didn’t take me very long to adapt it here on JStream! I’ve already included it in my Camerounais Airlines article, #5 in the series to date. Its successor variant, the Boeing 727-200/-200 Advanced, was the more popular variant of the two, but the 727-100 will continue to find its way into other articles, I’m sure.
What’s Next?
If Norebbo drops an exciting new aircraft template for adaptation, I’ll no doubt add it to the collection.
Otherwise, I’m currently in the hunt for quality reference material depicting the Douglas DC-6 (update: done!) and the de Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter.
But who knows? I might divert into some other template, including others I mentioned in the DC-3 rollout article. Time will tell…
