The Boeing 737-900ER was a 2nd stretch variant of the Boeing 737-700 that was first introduced in May 2001 as the Boeing 737-900.

An extended range version, the Boeing 737-900ER, was introduced in April 2007 to offer a range and passenger capacity similar to the recently discontinued Boeing 757-200, while also addressing operational shortcomings that were uncovered in the base 737-900 variant. It was sold only in a passenger configuration, although an aftermarket freighter version is being evaluated.

Production of the Boeing 737-900ER ended in in May 2019, having been replaced the new generation Boeing 737 Max 9. A total of 505 737-900ERs were built.
